Dr. Ashelin R. Currie​

Dr. Ashelin R. Currie, founder of We Love Lit!, is a community leader who strives to better the world by increasing child literacy. She consults with school districts to implement systems that enhance literacy instruction, and in doing so leads children in underserved communities to discover lifelong passions for reading and writing.

Dr. Currie’s expertise in this area stems from her B.S. in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University, M.A. in Reading Education from UNC Charlotte, Ph.D. in Reading and Language Arts with a concentration in Emergent Literacy from Oakland University, and from working at the elementary and middle school level for over seventeen years. She has also taught reading and children’s literature courses at Oakland University, SVSU, and Mott Community College, and has led presentations about literacy at local, state, and national levels. Dr. Currie is an active member of Pontiac United Education Coalition, Detroit Kiwanis, National Black Child Development Institute, TMZ Toastmasters, Pontiac READS!, and the Oakland Literacy Council. Dr. Currie was a recipient of the 2021 Esteemed Women of Michigan Award and 2023 Pontiac Regional Chamber Ambassador of the Year!
