Literacy Events

Children learn about the world through experiences connected with the text. We Love Lit! uses the research, and the supported approach of the Experience- Text -Relationship (E-T-R) framework to engage children and their families.
These connections cultivate literacy in the community. We believe that ANY moment CAN be a literacy moment!

Your Story Represented

In partnership with SCBWI-MI Equity and Inclusion Team families learned about  Elizabeth Denison Forth, first black property owner in Pontiac, Michigan through a  mural created by Zach Curtis in downtown Pontiac.  Mrs. Forth did not learn to read and write so someone else told her story. Children learned about the value of telling your own story. After this event, 100% of the children surveyed could see themselves as author and/or illustrator.

Healthy Halloween

In partnership with Delta Dental, Children received a toothbrush, reading/brushing log, and  a dentistry/halloween themed book of their choice. We Love Lit! promotes healthy oral habits–healthy students are better learners!

Did you know on average, 34 million school hours are lost each year because of unplanned emergency dental care, according to CDC?
